The Staffordshire Hoard and the Golden Age of England – Dr. Sam Newton
HRI, University of Warwick, Wellesbourne

Earlier this year RLSDFAS supported the National Appeal to save the Staffordshire Hoard for the nation. We are fortunate indeed that Dr.Sam Newton, a specialist in AngloSaxon and Viking culture, will conduct our study day and will show us how this discovery has reversed the established thinking about The Dark Ages, hence the title of the day.

Florence and the House of Medici – Jo Walton
The Glebe Hotel, Barford

The Medici family played a major role in the cultural life of Italy and Europe for hundreds of years.This study day will take us from Florence in the 14th Century with the foundation of the bank by the first Medici, through the bad behaviour which resulted in exile and includes a study of the Medici papers of 1560–1570.
